Diocesan History Day at Historic Halifax! May 2
History Day 2026:
The Road to Disestablishment
Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. St. Mark's, Halifax
This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. But North Carolinians have two other landmark events to observe. On April 12, 1776, three months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Provincial Congress met in Halifax and adopted the “Halifax Resolves,” making North Carolina the first colonial government to call for total independence from England. Halifax, then, is the perfect setting for a History Day devoted to looking at the established church in Colonial North Carolina and the subsequent impact of disestablishment.
Space is limited, and registration is required. The $25 registration fee covers the cost of lunch, speakers and a guided tour. The registration deadline is April 27. Register here. |
Parish Office Damage and Disruption 2025-2026
The Parish Office sustained damage during the storms passing through Roanoke Rapids on Friday, May 16, 2025, around 6:30 PM.
The large oak tree has been removed from the roof, but the repairs and damage assessment continue.
The Parish Office is temporarily located at 9 East 7th Street in the Parish House.
The repairs are extensive. The roof, trusses, chimney, plumbing exhaust, electrical connections, ceilings, and more must be repaired and inspected.
Kenneth Daniel Roofing is working with All Saints and Church Insurance Group to make repairs.
We can answer the phone in the parish house, but if we call out from the phone it shows an unknown number. Without more fees, we cannot overcome this issue. We can receive calls on our number.
We can check USPS mail and email. Please be patient as we handle this disruption.
Services on Sundays at 11:15 and on Wednesdays at 12:00 continue without issue. All are welcome!
We are awaiting arrival of necessary building materials to begin repair work. Obtaining the necessary supplies has been challenging.
This update is current as of March 2026.
Chair Restoration and Fundraiser
The parish house chairs were purchased in 1947 to furnish the new building. They were made in Siler City, NC, by the High Point Bending and Chair Company using North Carolina craftsmen and lumber.
The Stewardship Committee is pleased to announce the restoration project to give the nearly 80 year old chairs another 80 years of service.
The cost of restoration covers the chair and also serves as a fundraiser to accrue funds for a number of maintenance projects coming up on the historic Upjohn church building.
The chair joints will be disassembled, reglued, and clamped to dry. They will be refinished once joints are secured and any necessary repairs made.
You may restore a chair in memory of someone, in honor of someone, or with thanksgiving for someone or a life event or milestone. These will be recorded in an archival quality book to remain in the parish house.
The project will be ongoing until the chairs are completed. Fortunately, the restorer in Momeyer, NC, will take 5-10 or more chairs at the time, allowing us to only send chairs to the workshop once we have received the donation for it.
Consider adopting one more chairs over the next few months or years! Thank you.
